Our Family

Pat Sorrell, RYT 200 found her way to yoga after teaching fitness classes for many years.  “My body was slowly breaking down.  I was experiencing leg and back pain and my muscles always ached.  I didn’t know how to listen to my body.”  Yoga changed all that and more.  In 2009, Pat became a certified yoga instructor.  Slowly, she began to introduce yoga poses into the fitness classes, emphasizing body awareness, and relaxing the body at the end of each class. Now, Pat teaches only yoga.  “My path has changed, but I continue to study and to learn.  My passion is yoga and my purpose is teaching.  I love to see the light in a yogi’s eyes when the breath connects with the movement and the soul is in the moment.”   Pat also leads monthly DRUM CIRCLES at the studio and other locations: Pat attended her first drum circle over 10 years ago in San Francisco. “I was intrigued. The rhythmic beat of the drums made me want to join in. Everyone seemed to be having such a good time.” Since that day, Pat has enjoyed and participated in drum circles from Asheville, NC to the Bahamas. She always enjoyed participating in the drum circles, so Pat decided to learn how to lead the circles to help form one closer to home. “There was a lot of interest in the area, but I had to learn some skills.” Pat began working with Julie and Greg Florin, well known percussionists in the Triangle area, and studying the facilitation methods of Arthur Hull and Jim Donovan. She learned the skills necessary to facilitate a drum circle and with the help from friends at Uptown Yoga Studio, Pat formed a monthly drum circle. “I love it. We have become a drum circle community. Each month we seem to have another new face ready to join in. It’s amazing. Now when I think back to that day in San Francisco, I realize it wasn’t just rhythmic beat that drew me in, it was the music community, playing together, making that rhythmic beat!”

Meredith Cross, RYT 200, Reiki Master Certified, Childrens Yoga Certified- "Hey y’all! It’s Meredith.  I am practicing speech pathologist of 18 years with a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology  from East Carolina University. Although I’m a native of Eastern North Carolina, I took my first yoga class as a Sophomore at the University of Utah way back in 1993. Fast forward to 2011, I rediscovered the joy of yoga and meditation when I attended a summer series of beach yoga aboard Camp Lejeune. Autumn came, and so did the desire to continue taking yoga classes. I was so very fortunate to have instructors who had world class training from varied backgrounds. I learned so much from them which I carry with me today. I received formal yoga training through Transcending Yoga School in 2016, with a current Yoga Alliance registration designation of RYT200. Fast Forward to the Fall of 2016, I found myself helping others discover the benefits of yoga in the very same classroom spaces aboard Camp Lejeune where I became hooked.  Realizing that yoga also affects the subtle body, I pursued study in the healing arts of Usui Reiki methods and received Reiki Master (Usui Reiki Ryoho) certification in December 2017. I consider myself a yoga “guide”. I can offer you guided practice in honing your skills. How you weave the eight limbs of yoga into your own practice, is completely up to you. As you cultivate, nourish, and prune your yoga tree, one day it will bloom inside of you. When I’m not helping children achieve their best speech, or on a mat, I am living my yoga on a paddle board or fishing with my husband, connecting with beautiful Gaia on the Carolina Coast."

Jena Skai Rowland, RYT 200, Licensed Massage Therapist-NC LMBT 6986, Shamanic Reiki Master Certified Teacher, Crystal Healer, Sacred Soul Coach-  Jena’s journey into energy healing began almost 20 years ago as a teen living in Hawaii. Surrounded by culture steeped in ancient traditions, she realized we are much more than just our bodies and began to focus on mind, body and spirit centered living. While there she studied astrology, aromatherapy, herbalism, shamanism, crystal healing, oracle reading and mediumship. After moving to NC in 2001, she experienced Reiki for the first time and was amazed at the deeply profound peace she felt within. She knew immediately it was something she had to learn and share with the world. She graduated from Carteret Community College with a degree in Therapeutic Massage and was on a mission of healing others. After spending many years as a massage therapist, Jena started to experience injuries of her own from years of hard work. She looked to yoga to help restore her body and found it offered so much more. The path of yoga rekindled her spirit and initiated yet another life transformation. She weaves energy healing throughout all of her sessions to spark a deeper connection within, creating a shift into a higher state of awareness and offer healing for the mind, body and soul.

Brittany Segur, RYT 200, Reiki Level I & II Certified - Born in the Blue Ridge Mountains and raised on the Crystal Coast, I am from all over the state of North Carolina. I began practicing yoga in 2010 as a college student at East Carolina University. I was looking for a workout that would incorporate balance and flexibility but found so much more. I was amazed by the physical, emotional and energetic shifts that occur in just one hour of practicing, and I knew I wanted to share the power of yoga with others! After getting my degree in psychology, I began to realize the power of yoga and meditation in cultivating mental and emotional wellness. I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training at Embrace Yoga Studio in Fayetteville, NC in 2016. As a proponent of holistic wellness, I also began to explore energy healing and am Reiki II certified. My goal as a teacher is to help students incorporate the principles of yoga in their daily lives to aid with physical ailments, stress management, and improve overall well-being. I encourage students to move in their own bodies, knowing that each pose looks different for everyone, and to take whatever it is they need from a practice to truly make it their own. Outside of yoga, I enjoy paddle boarding, rollerblading and relaxing at the beach. I look forward to connecting with you on the mat!
