TAI CHI with 5th Degree Black Belt Steven White

Tai Chi, also called tai chi chuan, is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. To do tai chi, you perform a series of postures of movements in a slow, graceful manner. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion.

Tai chi has many different styles, such as yang and wu. The most popular style is yang style and this is the style that will be practiced during this class. Tai Chi is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and is best suited for senior adults who have balance issues and other ailments. 

Why give tai chi a try?
Like other complementary and alternative practices that bring mind and body together, tai chi can help reduce stress. During tai chi, you focus on movement and breathing. This combination creates a state of relaxation and calm. Stress, anxiety and tension should melt away as you focus on the present, and the effects may last well after you stop your tai chi session. Tai chi also might help your overall health, although it’s not a substitute for traditional medical care.

Mr. Steven White is a 5th Degree Black Belt Internationally Certified Instructor with the American Taekwondo Association. He has been teaching martial arts for well over 20 years and has been certified to teach Tai Chi since 2001. Mr. White currently owns ATA Martial Arts in Havelock and has been teaching Tai Chi at the Havelock Senior Center for over 5 years.
